Personnel and Staff Development

The Arts World Wide curriculum is intended for use by high school art teachers who are familiar with Discipline-Based Arts Education and who have the professional expertise and experience associated with art specialists. Because this curriculum integrates instruction from several subject areas, it is highly recommended that the visual arts, social studies, and language arts teachers team teach the curriculum whenever possible. The educational technology specialist and librarian also will serve as key resource people.

Staff development opportunities must be available for the educators who are involved in implementing this curriculum so they can increase their capacities for achieving the curriculum objectives. For example, these educators may need to pursue continuing education related to integrated instruction and the use of educational technology.

The leadership of building and district level administrators is also crucial to the success of the Arts World Wide curriculum. School administrators can support the curriculum by providing adequate staffing, scheduling, supplies, equipment, facilities, budget allocations, and coordination.
